CROHNS DISEASE…..ITS A PAIN IN THE ARSE
I am a 50 year old woman, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, auntie, friend, colleague and psychotherapist. I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease June 2015.
I worked in the Civil Service for over 20years and left when I qualified to become a counsellor. I had counselling placements in colleges and an infant school with children and young people using talk and art therapy. This was the greatest learning I’ve yet experienced, the children and young people’s thinking and motivation was inspirational and since then I’ve really been in touch with my inner child, which will pop into the blogs without doubt!
I moved to a local charity volunteering to work with young people and adults of all age ranges, from diverse backgrounds and with various issues. I went to University and gained a Masters in Counselling 2011.
In early 2012 I trained to work in an Employee Assistance Programme to work with clients by telephone and began working from home self employed.
August 2012 I trained with The bb group to work with children and young people online through Beatbullying, FutureYou and latterly Mindfull. Unfortunately these sites closed October 2014.
To be honest by this time I wasn’t finding self employment great. I either had money and no time or no money and plenty of time! By November 2014 I was incredibly fortunate to secure a job working from home, perfect!
For shits n giggles!!
Believe it or not, up until now I’ve been a very private person, but since receiving this diagnosis and researching Crohn’s Disease I have a strong urge to share my experiences and learning with others. I’m finding that writing this blog is helping me to externalise my thoughts, feelings and experiences, as well as giving me some clarity and understanding of this disease. Seeing it all laid out in front of me, I can see my jounrey in black and white. The mass of information that is online and readily available can be confusing and conflicting and I’m hoping that this blog will help me, and you, make sense of it all.
Although the I have had the condition for most of my life, the diagnosis is very new. Here you may find information that is old news, ideas that you may have already tried, tested and discounted.
My hope is that by sharing this blog you may find some new information, maybe some new ideas and new thinking about Crohns Disease and managing it. There will be some underlying therapeutic thoughts and perspectives, because that’s who I am! Most importantly I want this blog to give Crohns sufferers a laugh. Humour is my main coping mechanism and having a giggle gets me through it all!!
SO HERE’S THE WARNING……
This blog will share my experience of the path I’ve travelled to get a diagnosis and beyond. So here’s the warning! I will try not to overshare, there are still things I want to keep private obviously. BUT there will be ‘toilet’ talk, talk about ‘women’s things’ and general pains in the arse! I am a plain speaker so I will be honest, at times blunt, perhaps even crude and some swearing is almost a certainty, but not the ‘F’ or ‘C’ bombs!
So if this isn’t for you, thank you for visiting and the exit is at the top left. If you’re ok with it, then read on and I hope you enjoy.
